This workshop aims to develop teachers’ skills in teaching English with the use of films, which will become an element in the new secondary school English syllabus. Gary will share his profound experience in using the film approach in English language teaching. A number of techniques will be introduced, from choosing appropriate films to strategies in implementing the activities in the classroom setting.
An attendance certificate will be given to participating teachers which may be used towards your 150 required hours of continuing professional development at the discretion of your school principal.
This workshop is open to all English teachers in local secondary schools. Admission is free on a first-come-first-served basis. Interested teachers please email ukff07@britishcouncil.org.hk to register.

Gary Harfitt |
Gary Harfitt is a teacher educator at the Faculty of Education, Hong Kong University. He has worked at HKU for 6 years and has worked with pre-service teachers on PGDE courses and in-service teachers on MEd and BEd courses on the Teaching of Literature and Language Arts. Before joining HKU, Gary was an English teacher and Panel Chair at Good Hope School for nine years. Gary has conducted several workshops and talks on the use of language arts in the classroom and has worked closely with Longman Pearson Education (HK) on their Curriculum Development courses (The teaching of Film and the teaching of Poetry in the English Language classroom).
